I think Sarah may have joined her son and daughter-in-law in WA after Samuel's death. Although she gave her status as 'married' upon emigrating, I think she was a widow because I believe the Samuel Jones's death you found, Kath, fits perfectly. It could be that they both applied to emigrate shortly before Samuel's death - unless the Aus authorities required only married people and Sarah decided that her status was going to be married!

It looks as though the baby of the family, Leslie, was the one the parents followed to both Warwickshire and W Australia. I'll now see what happened to the older children because one or more of them may also have emigrated - the Newtons had itchy feet, I think.

Thanks, Kath.

Hi JoyLouise

Yes, I think you are probably right about the birth of John J. Jones. I missed that one because I was only looking for births registered in Newcastle-upon-Tyne district as I found the marriage of Sarah and Samuel in Tynemouth AFTER I found the other births.

Sarah may have joined either her son or her daughter-in-law if the death I found for Samuel was the right one.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks, Kath.

You've confirmed what I've just found as far as the birth of Jones children are concerned. I also wondered whether John J Jones born 1915 Q1 was one of Sarah's children; as she married at a very young age in 1914, was she pregnant at the time of her marriage. (Perhaps you found that but you were reluctant to state the possibility?)

I had not got as far as Susan M Oughton as I'd just come across the marriage of her parents and thought it looks as though this is a 'goer'.

Now my mind's working overtime. Perhaps Leslie died shortly after arriving in WA and perhaps Sarah went to join her daughter-in-law, Sheila Margaret.

I'll have to check more, but thank you again.

Thank you.

I don't expect that any children were born to Sarah in Australia as she would have been far too old when she arrived.

It makes me wonder whether her husband, Samuel, died in the UK and Sarah emigrated to join one or more children in Australia - that/those children must have been born in the UK, of course.

I'll search for children now because I can't imagine that Sarah emigrated to be alone in another country.

Would anyone be able to help with Sarah Gair Newton, please?

She was born in December 1897 at Newburn, Northumberland and she married Samuel Jones who was also believed born 1897.

At some stage they emigrated to Australia because her death is recorded (Sarah Gair Jones) in the Fremantle District of Western Australia in 1972.

It is not clear when they went to Australia or whether they had any children so I'd be grateful if anyone could help, please.
