Yes, she met my mother. Not a great success but as siblings we get on OK. The name Hann was on some documents she had from the adoption society - my mum called herself Mrs Hann for a short while. I know its not conclusive, but all we have got. Think this guy had a jigsaw factory down Hastings way which he moved to N Ireland mid 1950's

Who gave you (or her) the name Hann as being that of her father?

Did she ever meet your mother?

Heather

Heather Report 29 Sep 2012 14:20

I've seen her birth certificate and there is no father on it. She was born in 1953. Hence the problems. She was adopted shortly after she was born and found us, her other siblings some 37 years later.

You refer to your 'adopted half-sister'.

How did you trace her? Or did she trace you?

If you share a mother, her birth will have been registered with the same MMN as yours.

In which year was your 'half-sister' born?

If your half sister was adopted, does she have her adoption file? If not, she should apply for it. Read the information/guidance given by GR at the top of the Living Relatives board and follow the links.

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards/board/living_relatives

Is her birth father (Thom/as) named on her original Birth certificate? Assuming she knows her birth name and doesn't have a copy, she should order it from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ using the gro ref you can find on freebmd or this site.

If his other daughter was 18 in 1953, she probably knows of the existance of your half-sister. With the correct name of the father, it ought to be possible to find his marriage and her birth, and from there her marriage (if she did) and try to make (careful) contact with her or her descendents.

Sorry people, this is new and difficult. The bracket ((())) was in the wrong place, (Tom) should have been in brackets.
Further, I don't have much info on him. Everyone I can ask has died. He was the father of my adopted half-sister, and am doing this on her behalf. My Mum, her mum is dead and we only have a name and photo, and the idea that he was separated from his wife with an 18 year old daughter (1953). Thus this daughter is probably still alive, and maybe we shouldn't be looking?

No point in doing a tree if you don't have accurate info...................

Geographically, this is the most likely birth for the man whose marriage is posted above...........but you must get facts

Births Dec 1906 (>99%)
Hann Thomas George Hendon 3a 280

Why are you looking for info about this man? What led you to him?

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 28 Sep 2012 21:18

That birth belongs to someone who might well still be alive .........

.......... which raises privacy concerns re posting on an open site.

Heather, please don't make assumptions - it's just not worth having the wrong people in your tree.

How are you related to him? How do you know about him

What does [Tom was not quite right] actually mean?

Heather

Heather Report 28 Sep 2012 18:55

Thanks, that is a possible and was discovered by my sister in law but think the date of birth for him (Tom was not quite right) Further have no more info, thus am maybe going to work on the assumption that this is him if nothing closer turns up.

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 28 Sep 2012 13:38

Start by getting accurate info on him

His birth will be on freebmd

http://www.freebmd.org.uk

Was his given name 'Tom'......or the more usual 'Thomas'?

Where was he born?

His place of abode 'for some time' doesn't actually help...............

Trying to find info on a Tom Hann, born about 1909, died mid 1950's. Was married with a daughter (dob circa 1934). Lived in the Hastings/Bexhill area for some time but may have moved to N Ireland around the time of his death.
