For Scottish Ancestry you need Scotlands People website ,its a pay to view site not subs so units have to be purchased to view info. For his birth in 1950 you would have to view the ref and then order his birth record through the site ,cost £10 for a cert

You'd need to use Scotlands People website. It's a pay per view site so you first need to register then buy some credits, minimum 30 for 7 pounds.

For such a recent birth you can search for (1 credit) but cannot view the document online but you can order it. You can view earlier (pre 1910) births and census online at 1 credit per search (up to 28 results per page) and 5 credits to view any individual document.

On the same site you can search for and order crests and family shields. I think the documents cost 10 pounds. They canot de downloaded online.

If you can get to Register House in Edinburgh you can do as much searching as you like for a day fee of 15 pounds however recent documents to view, and crests etc still cost ten pounds though you can get them on demand.

Scotlandspeople is not a subscription site as you need to purchase credits.

You can not view online births within the last 100 years but SP would give you the details necessary to order the cert
