Sue in Sunny Worthing Report 20 Sep 2012 17:07

Please would someone be able to help me with a Canadian look up?
Sydney S Sarson, born in Greenwich (London) in 1912, died in Oct 1979 in Canada. He is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery which, I believe, is in Ontario?
I would really like to find out if he was married & did he have any children?
His headstone shows that he was a veteran of the Three Rivers Regiment.
Any help at all would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Wow, thank you - Henry was his cousin who I know also went to Canada. They must've gone together and both so young to travel so far, must've been such an adventure for them.

Just need to find out if he got married now.

Thank you for your help

Hi Sue

I think they were 'Home' children as Sydneys fare was paid by the Government and Henry's paid by the Salvation Army....not sure about this though?

Strict privacy laws in Canada, means that we wont be able to find anything online regards to BMDs

Have you got Sydneys death certificate?

Have you seen this?

Hello

Sorry I haven't replied sooner - I was eating my dinner :-)

How interesting that their fares were paid by the government & Salvationa Army, how did you find that out? (I'm learning all the time)

I didn't know that you can't find Canadian BMDs online, what a pain .....

No, I haven't got his death certificate - I got the details of his death from the photo of his headstone on the website that you have mentioned.

Thank you for your help & interest x

Hello Margee & alviegal

Thank you so much for your help, I have been reading about the Home children - how sad but I guess at least the cousins went together!

Henry returned to London but Sydney remained in Canad where he joined the Three Rivers Regiment

From this site:

http://www.12rbc.ca/PDF/Anglais.pdf

Thanks to the initiative and ingenuity of Sgt. S.S. Sarson, ‘A’
Squadron also completes a series of relatively successful
experiments, using non-magnetic ‘paints’ to protect tanks
against the enemy’s “beehives”.

Wounded today:
A-4373 ‘Len’ C. Johnston (lost both legs)
B-6456 S.S. Sarson

Thank you mgnv - at least I know that I wouldn't be able to get a marriage or birth cert now if they are closed for 82/97 years.

Margee - what a fantastic website, I've been home from work half an hour & all I have done is read this!! Thank you so much - how on earth did you find it?
