Sue...Have had another look at the initial thread and I am wondering now if the abbreviations you have listed on both John and James' DMP info. relates to "Divisions" rather than "Deployment"...not having access to the exact details I am now of the mind that this may be so...
The DMP (run along the same principles as the London Met) therefore the "Key" for B/D/C is as follows

B= Division Covering Lower Castleyard

D= Division at Green Street Barracks

C= Division based at Store Street

Hi, appreciate your email, Karen iTalbot is my 2nd cousin and weve been searching together for years. I live in Australia and shes in the UK. Sorry for the delay in replying it was very late here. We've been stumped for years with searching for John and James. Karen went to Dublin, it's a bit hard for me, and shes found info which filled the holes on Johns four children. I listed them below. So this is why I didnt think about linking with my August enquiry, my apologies. The information holes are still with John and his (perhaps not) wife Lucinda (possibly Lucinda Jane Stevenson) and their siblings and parents. We don't have any certificates and i wrote all the information I have in the enquiry. Johns first child was Richard Stevenson (Stephenson) Talbot, b. 1839 who also became a policeman. the others were Mary Anne, b.1841, Lucinda Jane (Talbott) b.1844 & Edward Henry b&d 1852. I can only imagine the B, C & D in my enquiry would be the rank level or even a division in the Dublin Metropolitan Police DMP.

The Talbot (Catharine listed as mother) you mention who goes overseas is not the chap in our line. I'll need to get on the computer so i can see all your replies and try to answer in a more sensible way. I do appreciate your help. Many thanks. Sue :-)

Well I'm pleased I'm not going nuts Barry!

Sometimes it's handy to leave it and put an edit on to say why it should be discounted then if anyone else comes across the same thing it means it can be eliminated from our enquiries.

I posted the reference to a tree on Ancestry and I deleted it for the very reasons that MarieCelest set out in her 2nd paragraph - it was obviously "iffy" info on the tree

Someone posted about 10 minutes ago about a tree on Ancestry that mentions James, but they've now deleted that post (why?)

Anyhow, I've had a look and it states James died in Virginia USA in 1881. I think they've got in a pickle with that! The immigration record they have attached is for a James Talbot, a labourer, arriving in New York in 1847. That seems highly unlikely given that yours was a police officer in Ireland until 1870.

Susanne....I assume this thread is related to the one posted Aug. Re Richard Stevenson Talbot in which case it may be wise to add this to that thread so info.relating to the family as a whole is not duplicated....
I will have a look and see what I can find for you in Drumcree area....

For those perhaps not familiar with the abbreviations..eg D (Dublin) it may be an idea to define the place names...

James appears to have his first posting Belfast followed by one Cork.....

Are you certain it was DMP....?

Marie Celeste....Dublin Met Police as opposed to RIC

Hello Susanne - could you tell us the significance of the Bs, Cs, and Ds?

Sorry if it sounds daft, but what are DMP officers?

Susanne

Susanne Report 20 Sep 2012 15:28

I have a John Talbot b. 1814 St Feighans, Drumcree, Westmeath, Ireland & his brother James Talbot (b. unknown). both became DMP officers. John Talbot posted D July 1838, then C in Feb 1849 he had two reg. numbers: 1255 & 3721 retiring on 31/07/1869. His brother James posted B 11/04/1845, then C 27/03/1863 & retired 11/08/1870. I am mostly interested in John's information, his heritage. John married Lucinda (Jane) (poss. Stevens/on) b.1817-1870 at St Paul's Dublin. I have information regarding the 4 children but I need help with finding the who what and where of John & James's lives & their parents. I hope someone can help me with where to start to research, are there certificates available, etc, all the normal suspects. Thanks. Sue :-)
