Seems it wasn't unusual for the time ...
Here's a snippet about a funeral ....

" ...it was the usual men only funeral except that my mother was
expected to lead the procession "

Yes Kate was still around .. I just received the Letter of administration grant (was hoping there was a will naming children but he died intestate). His estate was granted to Kate. I do have a copy of the death and pretty sure it was Kate who was the informant (I will have another look when I am in my study) I know about May, but nothing of Constance Annie. And nothing of Kate after James'death. There are a few Kate Watson's in the death registers but short of ordering all that may be probable, I cannot be sure.

On another track can anyone shed light as to why there would be a funeral notice asking for "gentlemen only to attend"??? This was what James'funeral notice said.

Cheers to all who have replied already - much appreciated :-)
Carol.

According to James's probate entry for 1942 - Kate was still around at that time.

As you quote the address for James' s death, you must have the cert, and know who registered it.......who was it?

To find births after 1911, look at the following site, inputting the relevant surnames

http://www.freebmd.org.uk/

Put the site in your favourites..........and use it for all England/Wales BMD enquiries from 1837 to c1950

Do you know if Kate was still alive when James died. If so, she may have remarried - there is this death, improbably but the dob matches:

Kate Booty
Birth Date: 6 Nov 1882
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1974
Age at Death: 91
Registration district: Wandsworth
Inferred County: Greater London
Volume: 15
Page: 1227

Edit - think this can be discounted there is a Kate Booty on 1911 census to match this death.

There does not appear to be any Watson/Loughborough births post 1911.

I may be barking up completely the wrong tree but this has me wondering:

Marriages Jun 1921
Watson Kate Cook Hartlepool 10a 245

Name: Kate Cook
Birth Date: abt 1882
Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1938
Age at Death: 56
Registration district: Durham Western
Inferred County: Durham
Volume: 10a
Page: 183

I suppose that if you obtain a copy of James's death certificate then discovering who registered his death might prove interesting.

Kate Loughborough b.6Nov 1882 married James Sedcole Watson. They had two children that I know of: May Frazer Watson (1907) and Constance Annie Watson (1910). James died in 1942 ... address Tristam Ave, Hartlepool. Trying to find out if there were any other children after Constance, and when and where Kate died.
Please reply if you can help.
