looking for any info on alfred vaughan born 1898 married to mary jones born 1899
i have been told alfred was adopted by a family member his parents are listed as william vaughan born 1868 and mary gallsworth born 1867
before alfreds death he found out who his parents were but refused to let his children know he was very angry at the news
there are no adoption records as it was common to just give to a family member at that time
his adoptive father william vaughan had 6 sisters but i cannot fnd any info on them my grandmother alfred vaughans daughter seemed to think the youngest sister was the mother of alfred
can anybody shed any light on this for us

Do you have his birth certificate? Is this where the names come from??

There is a tree on A*stry with the suggested surname of Phillips for Alfred prior to adoption.

my grandmother gave me all the information about her father or what she could remember she said he had been told he was adopted within the family but i can find anything about him before the age of 3 he always knew william and mary wasnt his biological parents and was told his mother was a family member my grandmother told me he found out who his mother was but refused to tell anybody and was very angry about mention of his birth

he was born in crickhowel
and the marriage in 1920 seems right their first child was also born in 1920
not sure where the name gallsworth came from sorry

So if the Crickhowell birth is his, you could pruchase the certificate as that would have his parents listed on it. That should answer the question then!

alfred was adopted by his uncle william vaughan at the age of 3 and given his name
cannot purchase a cert as we do not know the given name at birth
william vaughan is definetly his uncle but we dont know from which side of the family alfred came from

I appreciate that you don't know if his birth name IS Vaughn, but as it's his uncle that adopted him it's a possibility...I would risk getting the Crickhowell cert and see what the mother's name is, then try and tie her in with William..you will at least have eliminated that birth if it turns out not to be him.

If he was adopted age three, I think it likely they would have kept the first name the same, rather than confuse him?
