CupCakes Report 14 Sep 2012 23:13

I'm trying to trace the family of Alice Baxter 1900 whose father according to her marriage cert at aged 19 to Richard A Houghton in 1919 was as declared as Louis Walter Baxter a clerk.

Alice address 1919 was 116 Commercial Road, Peckham, London
Witness was her father and an Alice Baxter who I presume was her mother

I can't find a 1901 census or 1911

Can anybody please help

Edit made a typo with the date of marriage now corrected

Not seeing a marriage for Louis / or Lewis Baxter to Alice

Assuming this is Doris' birth it would give you mother Alice's maiden name

Births Mar 1909
BAXTER Doris Muriel = Pancras 1b 67

There doesn't appear to be births for Alice and Horace in Islington.

I wonder if they are from a previous relationship, and not actaully born Baxter ?

I don't know anything about her - I'm only going from the marriage cert.
Seems my grandmothers marriage to Richard A Houghton in 1926 may have been bigamous.

The family in Islington seems a possibility - my doubt is because Islington is north of the River where I live, the address 17 Rehidol Terrace is still today very middleclass but gran and all my family lived for generations in Southwark/Peckham south of the river a much rougher area in those days. How Alice and pop Houghton would have met has me thinking.

I can't find a death for her either.
