how much of the article you quote from have you been able to see Marian?

the title of the bit you give does not refer to your Byers but to the 1st case in the article. Your man's article is entitles 'An old man and a hearty handshake' where he thought the very strong handshake he had been given was causing him to feel unwell. He died the next day.

As the article is in a format which cannot be copied this is a brief summary

He complained that when he went to the post office someone had taken his hand and given him a shaking such as he never had before. Next morning (Weds) he was not well & spent the day in bed. He would not allow Mrs Winter to send for the doctor but on Thursday he was so weak she sent for him. On arrival the Dr found Byers dead and said it was from a weak heart, nothing to do with the shaking. Coroner's verdict - death from natural causes
