The marriage was 1st Jun 1850, I mistakenly put 1851. Thanks Chris that page clears up the fathers names 100%. I guess I will have to get the cert for the mothers name

Your John married AFTER the census date, if that is his marriage that was posted.

The census was taken on the night of 31 March 1851

The marriage took place in the June quarter of 1851 ...................... 1 June 1851 according to the record that Mike found.

so could still be the same person

Just checked. That John is living with his parents, unmarried, in Roghate on 1851 census. My John was married 1851. Back to the drawing boards...

Hi Mike, I searched the opc that Sarah suggested and found that exact baptism. Funnily enough John named his first few children after his wife's parents, and he had a daughter named Harriett! Thank you

Hi,
I have searched Ancestry and familysearch.org but to no avail. I am hoping to find the parents of a John Carpenter, born in 1821 in Hastings Sussex. He married Mary Newland Tribe on the 1st Jun 1850. She was born in 1829. I want to avoid buying a cert if possible as this is a rather distant relation. I loosely have his parents down as Charles and Mary, as this was the only baptism I found on Ancestry, in 1822 Brighton, Sussex. But after looking on familysearch I am now confused.
