I think you might have to risk the marriage cert for William Ashurst to Catherine Shanks. The name sounds Scottish to me, might be worth a shot. As she was born 1868, there is a fair chance she too had been previously married, which might explain the marriage being delayed. If it isn't William junior of course!! |

That's possible Mike, but it could also be William's son who is also called William. The 1911 census does say married 7 years and Catherine comes from Inverness so it's possible that they married in Scotland. |

Have you tried looking on Scotlandspeople for the marriage in case they married in Scotland? The 1911 census says married 7 years, so around 1904. |
