I would be very grateful if someone, with access to online All London Electoral Register records, would search to discover the identities of my ancestors living at 7, Byton Road,Tooting SW17 in November 1933.

Many thanks

David

Ancestry has some London Electoral registers for the time but these must be searched by name rather than address.

What names do you expect to find at that address?

Many thanks Jonesy for your swift reply.

I have a letter posted from this address sent to my grandparents signed 'Ernie' (who appears to be a nephew who I didn't know existed!)

I'm very unsure which side of my grandparents line Ernie is linked to - possible surnames could be Parry, Thornber, Bibby, Daniel, Daniels or Hepplethwaite.

Many thanks

David

It is important to remember that only those who were over 21 years old at that time were allowed to vote.

Unfortunately I cannot spot an Ernest with any of those surnames being registered to vote in Balham and Tooting and Central in 1933.

The only thing that I suggest is that you contact the main public library in that area to see whether they have a copy of the electoral register for 1933. If they have then they should be able to look up the address in the register to see who was registered to vote. They may make a charge for doing so, some libraries do, others don't.

Good luck

I telephoned Tooting Library; they have not held electoral registers for 15 years but they passed me on to Wandsworth Council; they passed me onto Wandsworth Heritage Centre.Unfortunately every Thursday their office is closed!
I will telephone once again tomorrow.
Jonesey - very many thanks for your support.

Kind regards

David

KenSE - you are a star! Thank you so much.
Your research has opened up a whole new previously unknown branch of my ancestry to investigate. In the letter written by nephew 'Ernie' to my grandparents, he mentions a 'Frank'.

Brilliant!

Kind regards

David :-)
