Joseph Schofield WW1 Military service

Hello,
I'm looking for information on the WW1 military service of Joseph Schofield.

He was born 24/5/1894 in Holbeck, Leeds. He lived in Leeds all his life (except during WW1 and 2)

I believe he signed up c1913, as this is the same year his first daughter was born (illegitimately!) He married the mother in 1920, where his profession is 'horseman', so he must've been demobbed about this time.

I was told he was in the Royal Lancs, but I don't know how true it is.

I believe he served as a cook in India/Bangladesh. I have a photograph from this time, but he is wearing a white shirt and trousers with no insignia.

His mother was Rachel Schofield, but being illegitimate himself he was raised by his grandparents and spinster aunt (William, Ann and Mary Hannah)

Thank you for any help,
Victoria

The records for WW1 are on ancestry ........ but you have to be aware of the fact that only about 30% of the records survived WW2.

and the ones that survived are in pretty poor condition.

Records for WW2 ........... you have to contact the Department of National Defense (I think that's right).

Records are released only to close relatives ............... if you are not the immediate spouse, you have to provide proof of death of the spouse, pay £30, and wait many months. I think I saw somewhere on this site the other day that the wait was now up to 12 months.

I've looked on ancestry ....... and nothing at all is showing up for Joseph.

No service records.
No medals awarded.
Nothing

Thank you, much appreciated!

I know this might be a silly question, but is there anyway to help narrow down which of the medal cards might be for the Joseph Schofield I'm looking for?

Not unless you have his service number
