I'd suggest Scotlands People website. Search for deaths in the statutory period and you should get their parents, spouses and usually a witness though in poorhouse cases this is likely to be staff. You'd need to buy some credits...as you have the exact death dates it should be easy to get to the documents without difficulty.

George,

I also had an ancestor who died in Barnhill Poorhouse.

The poorhouse records are held at The Mitchell Library Glasgow.

Are you able to visit them?

If not if you call 0141 287 2999 and ask for the archives dept (I cant remember their direct no) and give them the details they are very good at helping you.

I found the entry for mine and they copied it for me (for a small fee) and posted it out and from it I got lots of information.

It gave details of her children husband and of her parents and his parents.

Don't know if I was just lucky but if you don't ask you don't get!

Also if you google Barnhill Poorhouse you will get more info and try goint to "the virtual mitchell" site.

Let me know how you get on

George
Are you within travelling distance?

I would still give them a call as if they find anything they can post it to you and you can ask for the ref and request to see the original registar showing the entry when you visit.

Its amazing to think you can hold the original books. I love going to the Mitchell they have lots of interesting records for us to trawl through.
