When does it refer to. Sorry I must seem really stupid. I dont know very much about the Merchant Navy service.

Thanks MarieCeleste and Gin. You are absolutely right. Except in this case the information on there is not necessarily correct. When I looked into it I found I had married Thomas of to a Mary not Harriet. Therefore I thought rather than confuse myself and everyone who is very kindly trying to help me I would start again.

Thomas and his family were all abord the Merchant ship Defiance on the 1871 census.
Harriet his wife, b 1836, Henry son born 1859 and George born b 1861.

Can you please see if you can find this family on the 51/61 census. They were all born in Rawcliffe , Yorkshire
