That does make sense, she may not have even known if he was alive or dead

Seb

His daughter may not have been asked the correct question by the vicar!

If he just asked "what is your father's name?"

then she may not have thought to add ".... but he's dead"

Hi Mike, if I could find your Philip on a 1901 census in Wokingham it may help shed some light

I know it may be a huge long shot. I believe he was still alive in 1913. He is named as the father on his daughters wedding certificate (also in Bristol), and it does not state he is deceased.

Not having much joy so far, wonder if he used his new woman's surname?

Can't see any naval records.

Hi MarieCeleste, yes this is the correct Philip. He was living with Annie's parents Eli and Emily Buxton in 1981

Hi, I am trying to find info on my Great great grandfather, Philip Edward PArsons. He was born in Bristol in 1862 to Harriett Ann Erwin and William Parsons. He married Annie Buxton in Bristol in 1883 and had a daughter Florence Henrietta Parsons (b1884). He left Annie and Florence circa 1892 for a forewoman at work. He was a manager of a Hat Factory somewhere near the docks. He may have gone in the Navy as we have a Navy sailors trunk/chest that we believe belonged to him. Any help greatly appreciated
Regards,
Seb
