william james fry was born in 1824 Salisbury,he married Ann Grant born 1828 Chitterne,Wilts.I have their marriage certificate dated 24/8/1852 in Chitterne.William's father is listed as Henry,Iam having difficulty tracing Henry or his wife,can anyone help me or suggest where I should look ?

Could his names have been the other way round at birth? There is this christening and birth on the IGI:-

Hi Kath ,his name could have been the other way round,and thankyou to you all for your help.Where would I get proof of william james birth or (james william) ?

As he was born before 1837, he won't have a birth certificate so the only thing to go by is a baptism record - sometimes they state the date of birth too but not always. They very rarely state mother's maiden name.

What was Henry's occupation?

What about witnesses to the marriage? Anything suggests a sibling perhaps?

The baptism record at the wiltshire record office might list an occupation for the father so that could help tally things but isn't definitive proof. The census return for 1851 suggested above states that Henry was a bricklayer/maltster - it isn't unsual though for people to change occupations.

The witnessess on the marriage cert are george drewett and james polden which do not appear to be related.I will contact the wiltshire record office and see what happens.
