This was my grandad who lived in Pickering until about 1930 when he was divorced and married again, I believe, having more children. Any ideas where he went?

Could he have left earlier? There is this divorce petition, but the wife is Ann rather than Mary Ann.

Scope and content Divorce Court File: 8706.

Appellant: Ernest Stead.
Respondent: Ann Stead. Type:
Husband's petition for divorce [hd].
Covering dates 1919
Held by The National Archives, Kew

Legal status Public Record(s)

Two Stead children with Sherwood mother born 1917 & 1920 in Pickering, which may well mean this is not the correct petition, especially given the different forename.

He was in Pickering in 1911, married to Mary Ann Sherwood with one 4 month old son, Alfred Ernest. Further additions to the family were Frederick Alma in 1917 and Ruby Louvane Annie in 1920. Nothing more is known about him. Not sure where he went, when he remarried or when he died. Thanks for the info.

Why have you marked this thread as 'answered', which means your query has been fully resolved, when it doesn't appear that it has?

Do you know his exact DOB?

If not, you need to find out............by obtaining his birth cert

Births Mar 1892 (>99%)
Stead Ernest Pickering 9d 407

Who told you that he re-married?

And have you tried to find a record on freebmd?
