Searching for Gordon Bell

My cousin is keen to know what happened to his uncle who "disappeared" decades ago.

His name was Gordon Bell (but it may have been Alfred Gordon Bell or another first name). He was born in Lanchester, Co. Durham in or around 1915. His parents were George Bell and Margaret Thompson/Storey/Snowdon. (She went by several names but most probably used Thompson on his birth certificate) :-D

Don't know if this is the same person as it's in a different area but there is this death (birth year given is right):-

Name: BELL, Alfred Gordon
Registration district: Chiltern & Beaconsfield
County: Buckinghamshire
Year of registration: 1983
Quarter of registration: Apr-May-Jun
Date of birth: 1915
Volume no: 19
Page no: 0982

EDIT - I can't find another Alfred Gordon Bell born in 1915 except the one in Lanchester so he may be the one you are looking for. I think I would be inclined to buy this death certificate and see who the informant was.

Yes Kath, that is definitely his parents. His nephew always knew him as "Gordon" but I suspect he was Alfred Gordon. If so, that could well be his death certificate since he apparently moved away "down south" and was never heard of again.

Thanks!

Looking at the original register of that 1983 death for birth year it says "about 1915" whereas all other entries have actual birth dates (as would be the case from the late 1960s).

It implies that whoever registered the death didn't perhaps know him too well.
