You really need to get your adoption file, like Amanda I've been there too and it's just a fomality seening a councillor, but your file should contain a lot of useful info for you to continue your quest. Use the link I osted to fill in the application form - it won't cost you amything.

I so hope you follow this up and get your file, it might have information you will never find in any other way, although you have to see a Social Worker it's nothing to worry about, been there and done it.

Hi,

I was asking for help in finding the forename of Terence K Noone's Mother.

I sent for his Terence's birth certificate and yes he is my full brother on the certificate
edge it says ADOPTED so this is why I have not been able to trace him.

He was born in 1941. I dont know when he was adopted our parents placed me for adoption when I was two years old.

At the time of Terences birth and mine our parents were living together at that time they were not married but married just after I was placed for adoption. Both parents now deceased.

The above link will take you to the application form to access your adoption records/original birth certificate. The service is free, and as Peter has said you adoption file should have some information on your mothers circumstances and may have details of any other children she had.

You will see from the instructions you will need to see a councillor, but this is no big deal and can be arranged near to where you now live.

You could approach the local Authority Social Services Adoption Dept in the area where you were born to gain access to your Adoption file. If you are not sure of your birth name they are able to cross reference birth name with adopted name, information we are not permitted to have. The file should show your mother's full name and if you already had any siblings who were older then you. If you have younger siblings, the Authorities are able to check the mother's name for you. If you only want to find out your mother's full name just to check a possible sibling for yourself and not your full adoption history then the only other way, as has been suggested to you already, is to buy the birth certificate.

Hmm. 1941. Wartime! I have no experience of adoption apart from what I've picked up on here. I know that there are registers that you can put your name to in the hope that a sibling looks for you.

I've had a look on marriages and deaths on here and can't find him. If he does exist, he may not have the same name.

My thought is do you spend £9+ and give yourself a reason to keep looking or find out that he probably isn't your sibling OR let it go and keep wondering?

If you feel able, I'd buy and then at least you might find some peace either way. I'd love to know what you decide and how it turns out.

Have you put your name on the Adoption Contact Register? Then if he knows/finds out about you there would be a point of contact for you both.

No I dont know any more about Terence. My Mother gave me up for adoption when I was two years old and over heard conversationsmany years ago that my natural mother also had a son.

I have been searching on the free site of BDM searching for a boy with the surname of Noone and one with the Mothers maiden name also beiing Noone and I found this Terence so I just thought if I knewTerence K Mothers fore name I would then know if he was indeed my brother or half brother.

It is of course posible he to was given up for addoption at some time.

Its rather complecated and possibly not even true.

There are two trees on here with surname Noone in Hammersmith. You could try sending them a pm, ask nicely if they can help you at all.

I do not believe that there is any other way than obtaining a copy of the birth certificate.

If you do decide to obtain a copy order from www.gro.gov.uk The certificate will cost you £9.25 including postage.

I am wondering if there is anyway other than ordering a birth certificate to find out the Mother forename of Terrence K Noone born in Hammersmith London in 1941.

All I know is that Mother and son had the surname Noone.
