The change of spelling would be because the enumerator/registrar etc wrote what he heard, and 'laut' is pronounced 'lout'

Please are there any Lout's on this site that have an ancestor b 1863 d 1903 and married a Sarah Rachel Puddicombe m12 Jul 1873 in Stepney b 1850 d 1930 Hiis name is Jacob William Laut but somehow it got miss spelled to LOUT at a very early age and all his Childrens were born LOUT's. Jacob was the only member of his family born in England his Parents and Siblings were born in Germany
