I see there are Lots of Connolly/ Connelly's on here, pehaps this might help some of you find a connection.

Just reading through some notes from my second cousin, whos parents were Eric Ambrose CONNOLLY and Elizabeth GRACE who lived in St. Helens Lancs.

On their RC church marriage certificate in 1924 (Holy Cross Church St. Helens)
the witnesses were Joseph Connolly of 114 Vincent St. and Mary Catherine Furlong of 24 Cowley Lane. Joseph Connolly was a brother of Eric.

My second cousin states that there were 2 more siblings..Josie and Edwin. Edwin emigrated to the USA in the 1920's.

On Eric CONNELLY's Marriage certificate I ordered from the GRO his father is Joseph Connelly, A Tram Driver.
My second cousin informed me that Eric's father Joseph CONNOLLY was born in Roscommon, Ireland and his wife was Emily born in Oxford.

Hi Gins

Just offering a bit of help to those that are having difficulty tracing this particular Connolly/Connelly family as some newbies might be mislead with the different spelling..but they are one and the same family! Their addresses are identical on the RC Church Marriage Certificate (copy given to me by my second cousin) and the Marriage Certificate I had ordered previously from the GRO.

I have my tree on Ancestry too as does one other person.

The Irsh version of their surname name was CONNOLLY. My second cousin's father discovered this when he was visiting Ireland and did some research himself.

You would have thought as Eric CONNOLLY was married in St. Helens Lancashire, albeit in a RC Church that the Civil Registration of the marriage would have had his name Surname spelt correctly and not CONNELLY.

Like many surnames, it only needs one person from any family to have their surname spelt incorrectly on the registratiion records.... to cause a lot of confusion when tracing their family on the BDM registration records.
