Hi Gins,

Many thanks for the information. I find Ancestry daunting at times. I will follow that - again thanks.

Oh my gosh that's brilliant. Sorry I can only do the research in short spurts and tend to lose the thread. I really do appreciate the help you're giving. Sue :-)

Hi Sappho

You can filter the collections by country. Tick the country you want and then tick the box - Show only records from these collections

Hi Susanne,

I can understand your frustration with Ancestry as I live in NZ and I keep getting referred to Australia or USA when I want neither sites.

However, I have found ancestry to be great with their Message Board system. I have just been in and put the surname PAWLAK and it comes up with many messages (plus variations in the spelling) which you may wish to plow through to see if there is any connection. It would help if you knew where in Poland they originated.

Also are you trying to find out just what happened to them in Australia or their roots prior to their move to OZ?

Have a look at Message Boards Ancestry; to help scroll down the more localities and categories and click on -then Central Europe - next Poland and then I put in Surname, tried all names first without success. You can then have a look at the people using that family name. Its sometimes quite rewarding.

Good luck,

Regards,

Sappho

Hi Gins & Catherine, yup that's as far as I got. I tried Ancestry and keep being directed to the good ol USA. Wish they had a filter button that gave me the opportunity to say "not" this or that country would make searching so much easier when there so little real info to hand. I will check the link. PS I live in Oz so may not reply as quickly as everyone would like but I do watch my threads, so thank you. Sue :-)

Hi I'm trying to help a relative find information on her Polish parents and Polish family. This couple lived/died in Western Australia but I have nothing else to fill in the gaps. Sorry. Thank you for any help you can give. Sue
