Searching for information of my grandfather Hugh Dixon. (Born 1870) I believe he was born in Yarmouth. We heard that he married a Rosemary or Elizabeth in Ireland and that she died whilst giving birth. Hugh relocated to South Africa where he died in 1948.

I've been naughty, and copied that posting over ................... much easier to follow than having to keep checking over there

I am looking for any details I can find regarding Hugh Dixon. I have a copy
of his son's birth certificate (Francis Irvine Dixon) who was born on 7 August
1926 in East London. It states that Hugh was age 49 at that time and was born
in England.

I have been told that he was from a place named Little Yarmouth or
Little Garmouth. I can only find a Little Yarmouth which is part of Great
Yarmouth.

I cannot find a birth for him in the English records and I also
cannot find him on the Passenger Records. Any help of advice would be very much appreciate.

Did birth certificates in 1926 give the age and place of birth of the FATHER????????

There are incidentally a number of replies to that earlier request for information ............... several other people seem to be also looking for Hugh Dixon's origins.

Could he have changed his name ?????????????????????????

Wonder too if the poster has the marriage cert to Francis mum .Maybe that would give more info.

If he was Hugh Dixon born c1870 then looks like its one of the pre 1875 non birth registrations

Thank you all for your replies. I have the following information about Hugh.
Hugh married Henrietta Palm in South Africa.(1890-1966). They had 12 children. Joey 1912-1933, Elizabeth 1913-1965, Henrietta 1914-1980, Gertrude 1915-1982, Charles 1917-1979, Serfas 1917-1941, Neville 1924-1985, Peter 1924-1986, Francis 1926-1975, Ronnie 19229-2004, Muriel 1939-2007, Donald 1939-2003. We were told he was born in Little Yarmouth. Where that is I haven't clue. His father was James born in 1850, his mother was Elizabeth Anderson. Francis Irvine was one of the children. He was my wifes uncle. We are still in touch with his children. They also live in Durban South Africa. Francis was born in East London South Africa.
If this is the same Frances that Sylvain is talking about, and according to her info if Hugh was 49 in 1926, then it means he was born in 1877. I was given both dates by various people, but this confirms the year. If possible I would like a copy of Francis birth certificate.

The question about him changing his name. I cant remember where I saw it but he was named Francis Hugh Dixon. True or not?

Hi Gins, it was Norfolk Yarmouth. Was also told that the parish that kept the birth registers burnt down.
