Hi Paul, seeing as far from all parish records are on line then you may not find anything without trawling through the actual parish records, wherever they may be held for the particular location.

Thanks for everyones replies. I am indeed looking for JAMES NEWMAN and I believe he would be born around 1800.

I have put a '?' next to WILLIAM NEWMANS birth place being Bedfordshire as although he says his birth place is Bedfordshire in the census' I cant find a birth record to match this.

The only William Newman birth I can find is in London in 1823.
William married his wife MARY CLARK in St Marylebone

Hello Paul, I notice you have a "?" after Bedfordshire as William Newman's birthplace - are there inconsistencies in later census as to where he was born?

Can anyone help with tracing JAMES NEWMAN? I have the marriage certificate of his son WILLIAM NEWMAN (b1823 bedfordshire?) to MARY CLARK in 1842 Bedfordshire which says Williams father is James Newman but he is deceased at this time. He was previously a book maker.

I cannot find a birth, marriage or death for James??

Paul

if you mean you are looking for his service records, sorry but you will not find them online, these records are still held by the MOD and not in the public domain.

However they can be applied for but only available to the person themselves or direct NOK which has to be proven. If you do not have a connection to this person you will not get them

Here is the link which explains all

http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

They cost £30-00 but free to the actual person, and take several months to get them.
