Find Ancestors

Hi I wonder if someone could do a look up for me, I have Maria as being married to a Matthew Asbury, my problem being I had her mother as being Alice Marsh but now I found Maria on Staffordshire BMD birthdate 1840 and her mothers name as being Slinn.
There are no other Maria Kendricks in either previous or later bmd's

Remember that although civil registration began in 1837 it was not until 1874 that there was a penalty for not registering a birth. Consequently many births went unregistered.

Have you got the marriage cert which will show her fathers name .hopefully, you can then look for a marriage for her parents.

Born 1840 Maria's birth may not have been registered

This looks like the marriage of John & Alice. (The ages match the census) Problem is this marriage is after Maria was born:

Thank you all so much for your replies,I suppose it would be possible that Maria,being the eldest child, could have been born before her parents got married, but what I can't work out is that the Slinn thing, had a thought my great grandfather is Edward Asbury I could get his birth cert and like you said it would show his mother and father, what do you all think

Obviously I don't know for certain but I suspect that the 1840 birth that you found on Staffordshire BMD is not for the lady that you are interested in. Going by the 1841 and 1851 census your Maria would have been born before then and possibly before civil registration began in the September quarter of 1837.

Their daughter Julia's death record shows Maria's surname as Kendricks:

ignore my last post I think my heads gone to sleep and not told the rest of me, its Edward Kendrick and not Edward Asbury.
I will try to locate Edward/Alice Kendricks birth cert as they were born about 1853/1856.

I don't understand. Where does Edward Kendricks come in? The marriage I posted for John Kendrick & Alice Marsh has John's father as Thomas Kendrick.
