Thanks for all your help. Do you know I did wonder whether this ellen buckingham was anything to do with James. It looks very much as though he left her and then set up home with emma lester. Because it looks like he was never divorced I would think that maybe emma just took his name but I will look at that marriage of Emma Winter to James Buckingham in Hitchin in 1882

Married this time. If it is her, my guess is they didn't marry, or not for a good while anyway. IF it's her of course!!
