Beverley Report 27 Aug 2012 01:14

I have been trying, without success, to find something on Lilian Dorothy parsons who married my Uncle Frederick George prescott Twigg in 1926. I have the marriage certificate and it has as 2 of the witnesses a F. Parsons and an L. Parsons, It also states Lily's father as being a Frederick Parsons Retired Naval officer. I bought the death registration of Lilian Dorothy, and her son had put her date of birth as 18th June 1904 in London. I have not been able to find anything of them om the 1911 census. I have also sent for 2 birth registrations both wrong ones, I would just like to be able to get a lead on the family so I can finish off the line.

Oh dear, what a mess I have with Lily Dorothy Parsons nee Twigg. I have got her death certificate which states here date of birth as 18th June 1904, this informationn was submitted by her son. I did finally receive a smidgen of information from the family her father, Frederick was suppsed to have been in they Navy but in 1946/1947 he was supposed to have been a professional Boxer. Her son says the name was Lilian with one "l", but there is nothing. I have bought one Lillian Dorothy Parsons born 1907, and one for a Daffodil Dorothy Parsons born 1904, both wrong.. Bev

Most of the information on a death certificate is "hearsay".

The informant does not have to provide documentation to prove anyhting that he/she says.

If the dead person had told porkies, then .......................

It is also very common for the YEAR of birth to be wrong ........................ people would celebrate their birthday on the correct day, but maybe not be quite as truthful about the year.

Not only can the dates be incorrect...her name may be wrong also.

There are quite a few Lily parsons births, but only a couple with the middle name Dorothy

My grandmother married using two middle names of Gertrude and Ellen...it turns out her middle name was Mary...she only found out when she needed a copy of her birth cert for a passport or something 50+ years later

so is this the one you purchased which would match the place of the marriage more ...although she did die in Wathamstow which came under West Ham when she was born

How old did she say she was when she married?

Mary

Mary Report 1 Sep 2012 15:35

Lily born 1904 and her dad Frederick in 1946 was a proffesional boxer?

I think maybe he would have been too old at that point to be a boxer.

She was down as age 21 on 1926 marriage.

It is getting worse and worse. I am only going by what her son has passed on via his daughter in law. Unfortunately he does not have a birth certificarte, ana all I have is the marriage certificate the marriage in 1926, with FrederickParsons retired Naval officer as her father. Her son told his daughter in law that he was in the Navy and was a pro boxer in 1946/47, as you say he would have been far too old for boxing at that stage, as he would have had to have been born in the 1870/80s for her to have been born in 1904. I have sent for the Liliam born in 1901, as she may have put her age wrong, either up or down, She had her age as 21 at the time of marriage. I know my uncle only hung around until the son was old enough to looke after himself, then left. As my uncle died in 1980, there is just no way I can get correct information, and when someone is not interested it makes it harder for those who are. Bev

SOOOO .... there was a Fred Parsons who fought as a super featherweight in 1946 in Australia

and there was ALSO a Fred Parsons, Seaman, who fought in England

I do NOT think the one who fought in 1946 is YOUR Fred!

I also found a reference to a Vintage Boxing Magazine, dated 1911, sold on EBay in 2011 .............. and Fred Parsons is one of the boxers named.

Another wrong Lilian Dorothy Parsons. I sent for the one born in Essex, in the hope, but again another wrong one. Will give her a break, as it is costing me money buying all the wrong ones. Many thanks for all the help you have all given me. I do appreciate it Bev
