I have seen Samuel Webb elsewhere in my records and he is in the right part of the county. lancashireAnn's info is probably a good link, thank you.

on westmidlandsbmd.org.uk there is a marriage

West Midlands Marriage indexes for the years: 1867
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
BENNETT Ann WEBB Samuel Dudley, St Thomas Dudley Register Office 204/025/143

there is an Ann Webb of the right age in 1871 - eldest child age 10 suggesting Samuel was a widower

I would imagine that it is quite possible that she married before the 1871 census was taken. Most of Tipton came within the Dudley Registration District so there are some possibilities:

Marriages Jun 1863
BENNETT Ann Dudley 6c 1_4

Marriages Mar 1867
Bennett Ann Dudley 6c 78

There are also some Ann Bennett marriages in adjacent registration districts during the period.

1861 Census states that Ann Bennett was a Servant Nurse aged 12, living with the Downing family in Dudley Port, Staffordshire. I'm having difficulty in following her records in later censuses. Does anyone have any info to share with me?
