Peter Report 25 Aug 2012 01:10

I am looking for information about my great grandfather James WEBB and the connection with his middle name Dolman which has been passed down through a few generations since. He was born in Newington, Walworth, and married to Fanny SEARL in October 1867 in Portsmouth where he lived from then on.
I believe his father was John WEBB bn 1807 but that is as much as I have. I don;t seem to be able to go any further back.
All facts are most welcome and suggestions and tips also.

Thanks to all,
Peter Webb

Why oh why do people alter census names

jax

jax Report 25 Aug 2012 01:35

I can understand the children being changed, but like you not the mother in law

I had one on my own tree altered by some busy body that wanted to give her the same surname as her half siblings....would'nt mind if these people were related in my case

Hello Guys,
Thanks for your help and all the information provided especially to Jax for the Banns info which gave me the surname of my GGG grandmother. It would seem that my GGG grandfather John WEBB b 1771 was married before, probably in Gloucestershire as his first son John WEBB was born in Wootton under Edge in 1807.
My task now is to find detail of John WEBB b 1771- not so easy without going to the local parish I suspect.
Thanks once again, really surprised to get a reply so quickly. :-)
