I wonder if she was baptised at Ilkeston but also entered into the main church of the groups register. I have similar baptisms recorded in Heptonstall and Cross-Stone (Todmorden) where the actual register in Cross-stone reads as Baptised at Heptonstall

How about this as a possibility.

Baby was poorly and baptised privately 2 April 1755 and entered into the register (of one of them) as such. Maybe it wasn't their 'home' parish? Mum went home to her own mum to give birth?

Later the child was 'received into the church' in their home parish and the original baptism date added to the register with no indication that the baptism took place elsewhere. Then it s transcribed as a baptism taking place in that church as there is nothing to indicate otherwise.

Sight of the original entries may solve the puzzle....Fingers crossed!

Chris

Ilkeston is a town within the Borough of Erewash, in Derbyshire, England. It lies on the River Erewash, from which the local borough takes its name. Its population at the 2001 census was 37,550. Its major industries were traditionally coal mining, iron working and lace making / textiles, but these have all but disappeared in the last few decades.

The town is close to both Derby and Nottingham and is near to the M1 motorway. Although Ilkeston lies within Derbyshire, it is closer to Nottingham than it is to Derby. The eastern boundary of Ilkeston is only two miles from Nottingham's western edge. Ilkeston is considered by the Office for National Statistics to be part of the Nottingham Urban Area.

I am hoping someone may have access to non-conformist records. I have found 2 entries on family search for the same person, same date, same parents, but different areas.

28 April 1753 bapt Sarah Kirkman, High Pavement Presbyterian, Nottingham
28 April 1753 bapt Sarah Kirkman, Old Meeting Presbyterian, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Any help would be grerat.
