Thank you Pat, what a coincidence. My aunt Doris also had a sister Rose. Actually she was Florence Rose but always known as Rose.

My aunt Doris lived in Nottinghamshire and died in Derbyshire though, so that's where the coincidence ends:)

My husband's aunt was Rose who had the brain tumour, sister of his father. His mother's sister was a Doris. Her death was natural causes.

A coincidence Christine, home was Medway Towns, death Greenwich.

I have to ask Pat, the aunt's name wasn't Doris was it by any chance? I had to ask because my aunt died (and the death registered) in a hospital having a brain tumour operation 35 miles from where she lived. I assume that it's a coincidence but had to ask.

Death is registered where they die not lived.

My OH's aunt died when we were on an overseas posting. We had news of the death and under what circumstances.

When doing part of his tree I couldn't find death of aunt in her area, even though I knew the year of death.

She died in surgery having a tumour removed from the brain. Death was registered about 35 miles from where she lived. She must have been in a specialist hospital for this operation.

Wow, thanks everyone. Food for thought! Will digest this lot. Forgot about Freebmd - thanks for the reminder. The 1944 Paddington death defo not him. Daughter's marriage in 1940 - already deceased then. I am surprised at the Reg district of Stepney if the other one is him, but then, I never cease to be surprised with all this!
Many thanks again.

I think you are right Christine - she was def. Lavinia Emma, as no doubt you have seen! I found her 1911 too and the YOB is right.

I think his wife remarried a Pring and then a Harris and died in Chatham -
Name: Lavinia Emma Harris
Birth Date: 7 Nov 1889
Date of Registration: Apr-May-Jun 1973
Age at Death: 83
Registration district: Chatham
Inferred County: Kent
Volume: 5f
Page: 496

p.s. First marriage 1941 in July-Sept Chatham, so the earlier death fits for him better.

Found him in 1935:

Name: Frederick Arthur Simmonds
Electoral Year: 1935
Parliamentary Division: Edmonton
County or Borough: Enfield

Living with Lavinia at 20 Orpington Gardens.

As his wife had an unusual name, have you looked for anything about her - death, re-marriage?

Frederick Arthur Simmonds born Tottenham 1886, married to Lavinia E Lawrence in TOTTENHAM about 1917. Had a child Gladys Irene in 1918 (in Edmonton). Frederick Arthur Simmonds is named as her Father, occupation Leather worker (Army Pensioner). Does that mean he was invalided out of army??
On Gladys Irene's marriage cert in April 1940 he is on the cert as deceased but I can't find a death for him. The family all appeared to stay in the Edmonton/Tottenham area and the last mention of him that I have is on 1933 Electoral Roll, although this has been researched by a family member so I don't know if he actually disappears after 1933 or they just didn't find the docs. Any suggestions as to where I can look next? I do not have a subscription to GR or Ancestry at the moment so struggling a bit but will have to do a PAYG soon I think to help tie this one up. Sorry for waffling a bit!! Any help most welcome.
