Hello all,

I wonder if anyone can help. I'm trying to find the following:

Philip Leonard Roberts born 1902 around Croydon/Caterham. Father Philip Roberts; schoolmaster. I know Philip Leonard had a stepbrother called Ted and that his mother - unknown name - married twice. Philip Leonard was an only child.

I've ordered what I think to be Philip Leonard's birth cert but I wondered if anyone could help? It's the father I'm interested in. All I know is he's a schoolmaster...?!

Cannot see anything in 1901/1911 census to help. Hope the birth cert has the info!

Hi, thanks for the help.

Philip Leonard dies 1960. The one in Hendon is a different one, I think :) Philip Leonard isn't the problem; it's his father that's the mystery.

The Edmonton birth cert is the one I've ordered so I'm hoping it has fathers profession to confirm it's the correct man.

I've found a Leonard Roberts in a boarding school age 9 on the 1911 census. Not sure how to confirm this could be our man/boy. Basically I know Philip Leonard Roberts after he marries Doris Christopher in 1932. Before that I've not been able to trace him to his family at all. It's tat period before he marries and when he's with his birth family that's a struggle.

:-D

Oh bother no Philip living with the family in 1911

Phillip is now listed as PUBLISHER EDUCATIONAL

4 children born and 3 still alive

So rule out this family

The one in Boarding School in 1911 is probably Leonard Albert Roberts

Is your info about the father taken from the son's marriage cert?

Was the father 'deceased'?

When was the step brother called Ted born ?

How do you know the mother married twice if you do not know her name

Who were the witnesses on the marriage certificate?

The information relating to Philip Leonard Robert's father is taken from his marriage certificate with Doris Christopher 1932.

I've ordered Edmonton birth cert because I'm not certain of his birth location but he spent his married years around Croydon/Caterham; but there was also mention in the family of Walton on Thames. I do not know any more information. I had no other viable options for a birth certificate so I'm starting there.

I don't have any more information on Ted; I just know he's Philip L step brother and that PL mother married twice; and that PL is an only son, this information is from my elderly Aunt so it's a bit sketchy and to be taken with a pinch of salt.

The shoolmaster for philip roberts snr comes from Philip leonards marriage certificate. It doesn't say deceased (but that doesn't necessarily mean he's alive as sometimes they don't put deceased).

I have PL death cert, he dies 27 Feb 1960. Caterham. The Philip Roberts death you have above is the correct one.

Thanks for your help with this (I have 2 small children to typing a bit hectic!)
