According to a number of trees on Ancestry her husband's full name was James Samuel Robert Long and he died in 1945. Some have him as James Samuel Charles Long.

No verification.

Someone has also attached this record:

Detroit Border Crossings and Passenger and Crew Lists, 1905-1957
Name: Elizabeth Piper
Arrival Date: 19 Jul 1915
Age: 36
Birth Date: abt 1879
Birthplace: Tunbridge Wells
Birth Country: England
Gender: Female
Race/Nationality: English

Port of Arrival: Detroit, Michigan
Arrival Contact: Friend Gertrude Evans

Microfilm Roll Number: M1478_79

Let's investigate ......

..... I'm not convinced, this one was a cook and was single. She'd also been living in Canada. Also, I don't think Tunbridge Wells is too near Ticehurst (I think someone has maybe just snatched up one of Ancestry's hints without checking).

In 1925 they were in Hammersmith together:

London, England, Electoral Registers, 1847-1965
Name: Samuel James Long
Electoral Year: 1925
Parliamentary Division: Hammersmith
County or Borough: Hammersmith and Fulham

They were living at 27 Aynhoe Road. There is (Major) J after his name - was he military or does it mean someting else on ER?

(Or is this a coincidence with very similar names?)

From a public tree - to give us some background:

"Elizabeth Piper was born in 1879 the daughter of Frank Piper and Lois Tuppenney. Both parents were born in 1859 in Ticehurst in Sussex. Elizabeth was the eldest of 10 children, 8 of whom survived. By 1901 the family had moved to find work and settled in Silvertown in West Ham and Elizabeth's last sibling Frederick was born that year. Living with them was a lodge James Long born in Plumstead in 1879. By the summer of 1901 Elizabeth was pregnant and her and James went to Plumstead/Woolwich to get married and then back to West Ham where their daughter May Alice was born. They went on to have more children - moving backwards and forwards from West Ham to Plumstead where James was at times in lodgings and working in the Arsenal. In 1911 Elizabeth and her four children, May Alice, Edith, Florrie Annie Doris and Frederick were living in Erith with Elizabeth's sister Minnie who had married Arthur Lowther. In 1913 they all moved back to West Ham and some months later Elizabeth left the family home. Hilda her last child with James was a baby and stayed in West Ham with James and the eldest daughter where they were raised and helped by the Whittaker family who lived upstairs. Hilda never saw her mother again and althoug we do not know where the three middle children went we assume they were raised in Erith with the Lowthers. Luckily all the children remained a faily as they became older and parents themselves although none of their resulting offspring could show any light on where their parents were after 1913. Obviously someone knows and hopefully it will all fit into place one day."

Thanks everyone who replied for me - I still hope that I will find her some day. My mother was Hilda Maud - the youngest opf the five children - and never even had a photo of her. I don't think the Elizabeth Long who went to Mitchigan is the right one. Thanks once again Brenda
