If this is the William Atkinson from the 1871 census, his birth certificate will give Isabella's maiden name: Births Jun 1869 Atkinson William Hexham 10b 269 or, if this is her marriage certificate, it will give her Father's name: Marriages Mar 1867 Atkinson Isaac Hexham 10b 337 Bell Isabella Hexham 10b 337
Have you applied for any certificates, or are you trying to find the information just from the censuses and free sites and any with related families? Thanks
Added: Everybody was looking at the same time. Sorry for any duplication.

possibly
Marriages Mar 1867 - Atkinson Isaac Hexham 10b 337 <<< Bell Isabella Hexham 10b 337 <<< Walker Susannah Hexham 10b 337 WILLIAMSON William Hexham 10b 337
which would mean that presumably annie was Isaacs sister in law, as we use the terminology today- his wife's sister

Hi Penny,
My great-grandmother was born (illegitimate) Margaret Snowdon but later went by the name Margaret Thompson and claimed her father was Thomas Thompson on a marriage certificate. She first married Robert Hunter Storey and then George Bell.
I have traced her side of the family back, but I am intrigued by the connection with Isabella Dickenson (formerly Atkinson) who fostered her from when she was a baby.
Was she somehow related to Margaret Snowdon's mother Esther or to the mysterious Thomas Thompson? Or was she somehow related to Margaret's later husband George Bell?
Unfortunately without a maiden name for her I am struggling to find out which is why I hoped someone might have her on their family tree and know more :-)

sister in law can mean one of a few things
1) wife of my brother
2) a girl that my parents raised as a daughter, although not technically their, but considered legally theirs

I am searching for information about my great-grandmother's foster mother Isabella Dickenson.
Isabella fostered my great-grandmother (Margaret Snowdon/Thompson) from when she was a baby - and then adopted her illegitimate child (Jessie Snowdon) when my great-grandmother fell pregnant.
Isabella was born in Thorngrafton, Northumberland around 1846 and was previously married to Isaac Atkinson. Her maiden name may have been Robson (or possibly Liddle or Bell)
I have seen an 1871 census entry for her and Isaac Atkinson. Also in the house was 19 year old Annie Bell, listed as Isaac's sister-in-law. I am particularly keen to follow this up because my great-grandmother later married George Bell. At the time she was widowed and living with Isabella's daughter Annie Atkinson and I suspect they may have helped arrange the marriage.
I would love to know if Isabella was a Bell by birth OR if her sister Annie married into the Bell family.
Any information would be very gratefully received.
