I am looking for the maiden name of Mary who married Thomas Lewis she was born in about 1810,their childrens names were Eliner born 1830 Thomas born 1833 and Rachael in 1836 there were more children which i am looking up now ,can anyone help me please with her maiden name,

If you buy the birth cert of one of the children born after 1837, you'll get Mary's maiden name.

Hi Janice ,I can only go back as far as 1841 censors on here but they were from wales ,so I am sure this must be them ,I am checking the younger ones now ,it is Marys maiden name I am looking for,is there any way we can go back further on censors .

There isn't an earlier census available for you to search unfortunately so looks like you'll need to spend some money on a birth cert.

FamilySearch is showing a few possible marriages but there's no way of knowing which one is yours - if any!

Surnames are Thomas, davies and Williams which just about sums it up for Merthyr lol!

'From Wales' isn't really very informative.

Where in Wales, please?

No guarantee that any of the births were registered.

Until 1875, there were no penalties for not doing so

Thank you Janice for your help and advise ,I have just checked and the other children are in the family so I know you have right one for me I also found a mary born 1853,like you i was amazed to see Catherine was a brick layer aged 10.

It will be hard to get the birth cert with those names!

Think you can discount the last one as she would only have been 9 / 19 in those censuses, but it could be any of those 3, or, as Reggie said, it might not even be registered. Your best bet would be to phone Merthyr and tell them you want to buy the cert which has parents Thomas and Mary. You used to be able to include checking points on the order form but you can't do that any more unfortunately.
