Hi, my Nan worked for Wise's Laundry in West Green Road. I have a group photo of the employees. Not sure how to post it on here, though. If you have any info about the place that would be great. :-D

I'll check obits on library website tomorrow. Good thought Janice. He was a councillor in Tottenham so it may indeed appear in a newspaper of the day. Thanks for your time people.

1966.

Looking at images on google I'm not sure that it's not 10 to 15 years earlier. It may not even be a special constable. Where can I find a uniforms expert ?!?!?

Janice

Janice Report 16 Aug 2012 23:11

When did he die? Is there an obituary for him which might mention this?

Interesting!

Apparently there's an article about special constables in the March 2012 edition of Family Tree Magazine. Don't know if it's possible to get hold of a copy of the article.

Matching pair of pictures, him and his wife.

Janice

Janice Report 16 Aug 2012 22:57

Are you sure the photo is of him then and not a sibling?

Janice

Janice Report 16 Aug 2012 22:55

That's the address above. He's still there in 1914 on the electoral roll

What's the grandfather's name and I'll take a look. Didn't know about the special constables.

WhiffingSiggs

WhiffingSiggs Report 16 Aug 2012 22:43

I have no idea when he was a policeman. WW1 is a guess. It would seem some 31,000 special constables were sworn in during the first year of war.
