Hi,

I would appreciate it if someone could do a lookup for me. It is for Edith Armstrong (born about 1930). She was living in Upton Street, Manchester in 1951

I am trying to find her exact date of birth.

Thanks David

Electoral Registers do not give date of birth - they just give the name of anyone over the age of 21 (in those days) who has registered to vote.

If she was born in Mancester then this could be her birth:-

Name: ARMSTRONG, Edith
Registration district: Manchester South
County: Lancashire
Year of registration: 1930
Quarter of registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Mother's maiden name: Walker
Volume no: 8D
Page no: 265

Hi Kath,

Yes I have that lady as a member of my tree, but there are a few other ladies born in 1930 from different parts of the UK. I am just trying to pinpoint which one; as she is my mother whom I have never met.

Thanks for your help, I now need to think of another way of finding the date of birth of the lady who lived in Upton Street. But as you say, it could be her; just not 100%

Thanks :)

David, you need to check the electoral register at the main Manchester Library, to see who else was living there.. With luck they will be other family members.
If you can't get there yourself, you might contact the staff and see if they will check for you.

Thanks Jan, it now gives me an excuse to go and take a look myself :)

There is only one marriage for an Edith Armstrong in Manchester after 1951, quite a bit after though as in 1965. Problem is, even if you get the cert, it will be very hard to know if this is your mother. The surname of her husband is quite unusual however, so might be worth pursuing once you have done the electoral register search.

Good luck David - let us know how you get on won't you.

EDIT I think you should really consider that birth. Upton St was South Manchester so would fit well.
