Find Ancestors

I am trying to establish the parents of Clara (who was born in 1902 in Grimsby, Lincolnshire). Whilst I have found her birth in the birth records when I go on Lincolnshire BMD her birth does not come up.

I would also like to obtain a copy of her birth certificate without going to Grimsby but as there is nothing on Lincolnshire BMD I cannot obtain a reference number.

Clara married Arthur Barnes Cullum on 4th May, 1929 and I have a copy of the marriage certificate.

Arthur Barnes Cullum was a witness to my parents wedding Arthur Henry Middleton and Edith Howman. I believe that Clara was Edith's sister.

Can I order a birth certificate using the Volume Number of 7A and page no. 611 (if so how) or do I need the Register and Entry Number?

If you order from the GRO online you only need the details you have been given above, i.e. name, district, volume and page number and year and quarter of the birth.

Dos she give a name for her father and his occupation on the marriage cert ?

Her father's first name is Arthur however I cannot make out his second name.
It could be Bentley but I'm not sure.

Who is named as the father of Edith ?

Glitterbaby - her father's occupation is Labourer.

Edith's father is Joseph Howman. Edith's mother Arabella Buttery was married after Clara was born. It is believed that Joseph was not the father.

The family knew Arabella's first child as Gertrude Buttery, however, there is no birth record for her but there is for Clara. We have made the connection because of Arthur Cullum.

Someone pointed me to a link that an Arabella Buttery had a child in the Grimsby Workhouse.

I need the birth certificate to proof what we think the situation is.

Just a quick update on this one - it may possibly help someone in the future

Clara's birth certificate has now arrived and states that she was born on 23rd January, 1902 in the Union Workhouse, Grimsby. There is no name for her father, however, it confirms that Arabella Buttery was her mother.

Therefore Gertrude Buttery's (as she was known to the family) registered name is Clara Pyfinch Buttery.

Just to confirm that on the 1911 census her name is Arabella on the original even though it was transcribed Isabella.
