Find Ancestors

I am trying to trace this branch of my family back. John was my paternal grandmother's father. He married Sarah Mather in 1873, and had two children, but had been married before and had a daughter Harriet by this previous marriage. The family seems to have been based in the Manchester area, around Rhodes near Middleton. Please can anyone help me?
