I would have assumed that Martha had John before meeting Paul Gunn and that her name was Renshaw.
I cannot find a Gunn / Renshaw marraige.

There is a marraige for Danniel Gunn with father Paul Gunn in 1881 in Barton in Cheshire, spouse is Martha Wakefield.

So am feeling a bit confused and would appreciate some clarification
regards and thank you

Could John Renshaw have been the grandson on Paul Gunn but not the child of Daniel and Martha and was just visiting in 1881 - sorry there are two of the same name

so was just married on the 1881 census

that is a possibilty as he was staying with them in 1891 and listed as grandson and in 1901 he is listed with paul and mary as nephew. I thought one of the census could be wrong. So he could be the son of a sibling of Mary Gunn (Renshaw). So far have only found one sibling for her, Hannah born 1821 ish. There must be more
