Hi,
On behalf of a friend, I'm looking for James McAvoy DOVER in the
1940 US Census. He should be living in West Virginia.
I'm hoping that someone on here, if they have some time to spare to see if they could find James on the census please?
I've spent two days, off and on, looking for him, and though I've tried every variation of searching for him, I can't find him. He must be down under an obscure name variation.
This is the info my friend has on him.
James McAvoy DOVER was born in England on August 8, 1902. James married Llizabeth (should be Elizabeth) SHELTON in West Virginia, and they had one son, James McAvoy DOVER, Jr. The son died of a brain tumor in the 1950s when he was about 15 years old. After the son died, James and Llizabeth divorced. James was an insurance agent for Metropolitan Life in Rainelle, WV. He died July 16, 1992, in Rainelle, West Virginia. He is buried in Rupert, Greenbrier County, West Virginia.

I've found him on the 1930 census, living as a boarder.
His middle name is transcribed wrongly - should be McAvoy.

I don't know when he married his wife, but have found a transcript of death entry for his son, James McAvoy DOVER Jr.

If his son was approx 15 when he died, his birth would be appprox 1937 - but I don't know for certain if he was 15 when he died.
James Sr's parents, Mary and Joseph DOVER lived in Fayetteville, Fayette, West Virginia in 1940, and their surname was wrongly transcribed as DAUER.
I was hoping that someone would be able to find James under a variation that I haven't seen - but this is a bit of a stinker to search for, so I'll understand if no one has the time to do the search.

I've already got the previous census's information for James and his parents, but its nice to see them again.
I haven't got James Social Security death index, so its nice to have that.
I'm not sure if its the right marriage entry for James, as he had married someone called Elizabeth Shelton, but I guess its possible he could have been married twice. I'll keep the info for my records.
I'll keep on looking at variations for James in the hope I'll find him in the 1940 census.
