John Lovell 1684 - 1712

John Lovell was in Charles town Boston in June 1709 when he married Priscilla Gardner.
Priscilla was born 1686 in Boston and came from an influential family in the New England establishment so it is expected Lovell would be a young man of means or at least on the way up at that time.
He may have stemmed from the Lovell/Lowell families in the area at that time or have been a relatively new immigrant to the young New England Colony.
Unfortunately he died as a result of his small sloop being wrecked on an Island which now bears the family name e.g. Lovell Island.
This is a moot point as Wickiepedia suggest this dubious honour goes to another seafarer in the Lovell line.
I expected that such a tragic story would have been well covered within the huge amount of material that relates to this Colony but I have been disappointed for some time now and I hope that some of the samaritans that help people like me will be able to tap into a record that I have not been able to find..
I have seen a wealth of references in Ancestry .com USA but +they do not provide the vital parental link which I need.
I am sure that if this is forthcoming the previous ancestry will drop into place.
If any-one knows anything or is merely interested in helping it will be very much appreciated. :-)

Or maybe not! Not sure if the date 1789 on the city directory is an exact date or the date of the cat;

Thanks Gins

Your information is great and super quick . I don't know how you do it.

The fist reference to James is correct. He is the brother of my direct ancestor. John who you have picked up in the Lewis tree.

chronologically the marriage was in jun 1709 , john was born jun 1710 and James Nov 1712.

John the father and husband of Priscilla died post March in 1712. This is confirmed by Rev. Benjamin Lovell 1755 - 1828 who is John's Grandson. He tells the story of the shipwreck & the death of John in abt 1712 and the naming of Lovell Island. He recalls his Aunt (Priscilla's sister?) living in Greene St Boston, close to where he went to school. Priscilla died when he was 7.

The references to James and Jane lovell is the best news Ive had in a long time.

I say this because the man I'm chasing info about was in the process of setting up his own merchandise shop with his wife Priscilla when his boat and its contents were lost on Lovell Island.

The misfortune was costly to the family and as explained before the child John who is in my ancestral line was raised by Priscilla with the help of relatives. This was unusual for that time because she did not remarry and she lived for 50 years beyond the death her husband. He John the son, graduated from Harvard in 1728 and he became the principal of the first Boston Grammar school

.I have the direct family history then to the present day.

I will now chase up the family references you have provided and I am sure that they will give me the link I'm looking for.

Thanks again.
