Find Ancestors

I am trying to find out where John Thomas Thompson c1846 (born in Newington Surrey) was, between 1871 - 1891.

I know he was living with his parents John & Caroline Thompson in 1871

In the 1891 census was living with his mother & brother.(on the census as C.A. & R.S. Thompson.)
John was then a widower.

I can't find him on the 1881 census.

Can anyone help me please.

Possibly rule out the 1871 marriage to Louisa Acton as the occupation of John is candle maker

Now that is strange that 1871 marriage the occupation of father matches the 1871 census of malt roaster

Think this needs to be ruled out somehow or put back into the picture ??

The marriage was dated 1871

Johns fathers name is correct & his occupation was a Malt Roaster.
