I am trying to find out where John Thomas Thompson c1846 (born in Newington Surrey) was, between 1871 - 1891.

I know he was living with his parents John & Caroline Thompson in 1871

In the 1891 census was living with his mother & brother.(on the census as C.A. & R.S. Thompson.)
John was then a widower.

I can't find him on the 1881 census.

Can anyone help me please.

Have you tried searching the 1881 by his occupation or have you found his mother in 1881

Possibly rule out the 1871 marriage to Louisa Acton as the occupation of John is candle maker

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 12 Aug 2012 12:18

Now that is strange that 1871 marriage the occupation of father matches the 1871 census of malt roaster

GlitterBaby

GlitterBaby Report 12 Aug 2012 12:23

Think this needs to be ruled out somehow or put back into the picture ??

Name: John Thomas Thompson - candle maker
Age: Full Age
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1871
Spouse Name: Louisa Acton
Record Type: Marriage
Event Date: 9 Apr 1871
Parish: Newington St Mary
Borough: Southwark
Father Name: John Thomas Thompson - malt roaster
Spouse Father Name: John Charles Acton - paper hanger
Register Type: Parish Register

Witnessed by Edwin Wood and Emily Parsons (?)

Address given as Laburnum Cottages, Thurlow St

Even stranger looking at the 1871 census entry the family next door are in Thurlow St.

Am I making too much of the coincidences :-S

Hi Glitter Baby.

Very strange !!!! as the Birth date of John is 1846 not 1871

The marriage was dated 1871

Johns fathers name is correct & his occupation was a Malt Roaster.

You clever lady----- I think you have found him

Thank you so much, I really appreciate this info.

I think the John & Louisa Acton are parents of Louisa who married in 1871?

Edit: Sorry I see where youre coming from now! But still no sign of John T Thompson in 1881
