Wondering if anyone can help! I am trying to find a date of birth and/or date of death for my Grandfather John Barton. The information I have so far is: he was married to Margaret Ann Maidstone on 8 June 1907 at the Wesleyan Centenary Chapel, Dover, Kent. I have the marriage certificate which shows he was 26 and his father was William. At the time he was a Corporal in 'The Buffs', stationed at the Citadel Barracks in Dover, Kent. I think he was born in Kent as this seems to be where most of the family are from. In 1914 his son Arthur was born at Shorncliffe Camp, Sandgate, Kent and by this time he was Sergeant in 'The Buffs'. I have checked the 1881 census and 1891 census. There are 2 that could be possibilities but both have the same name father, William! I haven't found him on the 1901 or 1911 census. As I am also not sure of his date of death or where he died, I am struggling with this one! I have tried to find military records but not having much luck with that either! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
