I am looking for this little family please, who would probably have been in either New York City or possibly the wider New York State when the census was taken.

ROBERT SEYMOUR HERVEY, born UK, 1904.
DORIS VIOLET HARMAN HERVEY, born Jamaica, 1900.
DAVID HAMILTON HERVEY, born Jamaica, c.1929.

Thank you very much.

Thank you Maureen SO MUCH.

That is wonderful.

Hope I can get the image up for myself, but sometimes I am a bit of an IT dinosaur!

I wonder whether you could go to my other thread in connection with the younger sisters of Doris Violet Harman Hervey nee Ramsay, please. She had two younger sisters and I think that I can see one of them marrying a 'Marshall' in NY but I haven't got Ancestry Worldwide so can't see all the details.

Thank you so much.
:-D :-D

Hi Nicola

You need to stick to one thread per family so that info is not duplicated

I can see that you have posted a few on this name

Just echoing Gins' advice. It gets confusing otherwise.

Who do you think married a Marshall? Maybe put that on your other thread?

I think I'm going to have to shut down-cracking thunderstorm going on!

I've reported the thread.

Nicola S has multiple posts about the same family and expects us to go back and forwards between them

Sorry Nicola S but you should respect the rules of GR and also respect the members who help you

Nicola'S Report 12 Aug 2012 12:19

Well, I must apologise again sincerely.

I hope that one and all realise that I have acted in complete innocence here. Unfortunately, in trying to 'compartmentalise' and separate our different areas of research within the same family we thought that we were HELPING all of you to help us - the last thing we would wish is to hinder.

We sincerely thought that by asking if someone could kindly ONLY search for this family in the 1940 US census that it would save all of you trailing through all the other unrelated thread for them; we were ONLY hoping to find them in that census to tidy things up at our end.

I don't know how to plead innocence in this matter. Should I contact GR myself and explain where I went [innocently] wrong?

Thank you.

Have just re-read GR's guidelines.

Under their No.3 it states:

"Please do not communicate material that deviates from the topic of the message board thread - start a new topic if you'd like to."

So perhaps I should have pm'd Maureen about the sisters, rather than ask for the further info within this thread title?

Apologies again; I really thought that I was doing the right thing.

Hi Nicola

Between us helpers we have been around the world for you and I'm sure all of us have enjoyed helping you

I understand that members can post twice about the same family not realising, but you have been asked several times by members, not to duplicate

Maybe you didn’t realise how frustrating it is to spend hours finding information for you and then to discover that it has all been found previously.

If you are researching a line in your family, stick to one post. For example if you start with Fred Bloggs, then stick with the same thread for his wife/children/siblings/parents/BMDs etc....

Check this out from GR and read the penultimate paragraph

Thank you

I've sent Gins a pm to apologise again for splitting up the different areas of research within one family.

She knows that I did this in an effort to make it easier for all you kind helpers to know exactly what we were asking for help with.

I feel dreadful for getting it wrong. When I look back at all the magnificent efforts you have all made for me with my 'wandering' family, and the success stories and consequent revelations [!!], it makes me feel even worse that I've antagonised unintentionally - of course.

I can only apologise again.
:-)

Well, Im pretty stunned that GR have gone against their own rules and reinstated the post!

Doesnt give me much confidence...not at all

Come on Gins, don't be so hard. Nicola made a mistake which she has apologised profusely for.

At least all her postings were for different members of the family and I don't think a lot of information got duplicated. The ones that really annoy me are the same posting being put onto different boards. That's when people's time and effort really gets wasted duplicating records. Or posters not telling you that actually they knew that so and so had married so and so and had all these children, they had just omitted to mention it.

It was a totally innocent mistake so let's just accept it as that and move on.

Nicola, don't beat yourself up about it. I can see the reasoning behind your posts and I really enjoyed hunting for your 'wandering' family.

Nicola......you carry on girl :-D

Alviegal, I am not going to let some multiple poster get in the way of my respect for you

......and Nicola HAS posted about the name over and over, strange lots have now gone!

Seems like I am the only one who can remember ;-)
