Hello,
I am trying to find more information about my s x gt grandmother Jane Carter.
I do have some information about her, but age given at various points in her life, would give various possible dates for her birth. Listed below is the information that I have.
MARRIAGE CERT 1870 to James Fletcher Morris – age given 25, possible date of birth 1845, in Aylesford, Kent (Taken from death cert 0. Fathers name given as David Carter.(occupation Labourer). Residence given as Croydon, Witnesses are
Ebenezer Whitaker & Mary Bishop.
1871 census age given as 25, possible date of birth 1846.
1881 census age given as 33, possible date of birth 1848.
1891 census age given as 45, possible date of birth 1846.
Death certificate, dated 9th December 1894 , gives an age at death of either 37 or 57, making year of birth either 1857 or 1837.
On all census transcripts place of birth is always given as Aylesford, Kent.
I am struggling to find out exactly when she was born, & who her parents were, & from.
If anyone has access to the Aylesford parish records & could look things up for me, this would be appreciated.
Bob

Does it state that her Father is still alive on the certificate?
Thank-you

I did wonder about this, in view of Mary, but a bit too speculative really. Might be good to find them 1861 just to confirm I am barking up the wrong family tree:

You may very well be on to something there brummiejan

Marriage for Malling, Kent Jul-Sep 1840

David Bishop to Jane Carter

Looks as if Jane Carter (junior) took a few years off her age. Maybe because she was older than James Fletcher.

But, as Jane was only a few month old when David and Jane married, I doubt that little Jane would have been told that she was Carter and not Bishop.

Unless mother Jane had been married before, so Jane had been born legitamately as a Carter.

Although there is a Jane Carter on familysearch.org baptised 8th May 1814 at Penshurst.
