Hi
Just to say that a lot of war years probates seem to have been granted from Llandudno, - perhaps the administration was moved out of London at that time.

Hi MaryCeleste,
Yes I don't know why the will was registered in Wales.. Auntie says that Alice Banks and her were companions and lived together for quite a number of years..but of course Auntie never knew that she was her Grandmother, that must have been quite sad for Jane, but obviously something that was discussed and decided that was the way it was to be.

I see that after looking at the certificate again, thanks..and thanks to Mel as well
It looks to me as if Johanna always lived in Fulham area and Annie was born in Lewisham so I can't work out how they 'married' up.
I have a photo of Annie and she certainly looks 'foreign', when I showed my husband he said straight away she looked Indian, so perhaps somehow Johanna adopted her, I think it will remain a mystery although over the years I had discovered more and more.
Walter Albert Trowbridge and Annie were my Auntie's parents. I found the grave at Gunnersbury Cemetery last week of Jane Mercy Dunn, who never married.

Linda - just to clarify, Annie was not registered as Ferguson, she was registered as Dunn as I posted above. A child's surname is not actually given on the birth certificate - where it may say " Annie Lilian Ferguson" that is her first and middle names.

Thankyou very much MarieCeleste and Choccy
We cannot yet find the link between Annie and Johanna except that Annie was registered with the surname Ferguson when her Mother was Dunn.
On her marriage certificate is says that her Father is Thomas Tendar Dunn. although the J's T's and F's all look very similar so it could be Jendar or Fendar. I have never found anyone with this name and wondered if she just made it up as she was illegitimate, although it says he is a furniture dealer which is what Johanna is on her certificates, although why you would pick such a strange name is beyond me.
Another complication is that on Johanna's second marriage cert. it states that her Father is a John Page, when I look up a marriage between Ferguson/Page it gives Johanna Page married a Charles Daniel Ferguson but on the 1901 census you have found, which I am certain is correct it states his name as Edward.
Hope I haven't boggled your brain! This lot, although fairly recent in ancestor terms have caused me so many difficulties.

Annie Lilian was actually registered as Dunn, probably given her father's surname as a last middle name:
England & Wales, FreeBMD Birth Index, 1837-1915 Name: Annie Lilian F Dunn Date of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep 1896 Registration district: Lewisham Inferred County: Greater London, Kent, London Volume: 1d Page: 1179
Could Edward Ferguson be the father and his wife accepted her and brought her up?

I am trying to find Annie Lilian Ferguson born Lewisham 1896 mother Jane Mercy Dunn no father's name given. Later, on her marriage certificate she is called Ferguson-Dunn and all her children are registered as this surname.
On 1902 I have Jane Mercy Dunn as Jane W Dunn living as a single servant in Beckenham Kent with no daughter with her.
On 1911 I have Annie living with Johanna Ferguson, widow, living in Fulham at the same address as on her later wedding certificate. It says she is Johanna's daughter. No christian names given on this but Annie's birth and place are exact.
My Auntie, who is 84, said that they were always told that Johanna Ferguson was their Grandma and that Jane Mercy Dunn was a close family friend. But that has been found to be untrue. She visited Jane many times as a child and also has a photo of Johanna Ferguson
Where is Annie on 1901? Thanks
Linda
