I am trying to find out if a street was renumbered, as I am fairly sure the family did not move, but another family I have were still in the same number property on both census.
In 1881 William and Catherine Dunk were living at 42 Tontine Street, Folkestone.
In 1891 they were living at 46 Tontine Street, Folkestone.
Please would someone look up this address on both census and note the neighbours and the property number.
Many thanks

In 1881 numbers 44, 46 and 48 Tontine Street are unoccupied., so as family needs change it could be quite likely that they moved.
Some Folkestone streets in that area were renumbered though.
Folkestone library might be able to confirm.

I have extended family in a Portsmouth street who seemed to move fairly often within the same road.

Many thanks Anne, from the images seems no names are repeated apart from the Dunks on the higher numbers, but the images doesn't show lower numbers. At least I know that their side of the road were even numbers.

Thanks Gwyn, I am fairly sure they didn't move as I have a diary and I am sure they would have put in it if they moved as they put in when they bought number 42 and when they moved in 1898.

Josie
Were there any family events...births, baptisms etc. which are likely to record the address between those dates?
Are you near Folkestone?
If not I can go to the library if you need.

PM me if you want local help.

Josie,
I will PM the next page for each census year so yu can have a better idea of the neighbours
There does seem to be a change in the street between 1881 and 1891.
Nos 34, 36 and 38 were individual properties at 1881 but by 1891 all three had become a single hotel.
Also ....1yr old Sarah Dunk and a servant are both on the next page of 1881... oops. sorry
