Yes that is his photo.
I believe that he married EDith OSBORN around 1890/1891, although I am unsure where.
I do know that there was 3 sons, Charles c1892, Elsie and Geoffrey 1904.
I knew that Elsie and Geoffrey were both born in India and am guessing that Charles was as well.

Thank you MarieCeleste for that information.
How would I go about looking at an original or copy of document?

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 3 Aug 2012 19:39

Joanne, not finding anything for Charles Alfred, but SA records are notoriously hard to find.

Is that your tree on Ancestry with his photo?

always google in cases like this - just put in the search engine

"how to I obtain birth certificates from South Africa" and the same for India and you will get a multitude of websites telling you how to do this

Google search gives:

plus lots of others.
Sorry, I am not in a position to recommend any.

Joanne Report 2 Aug 2012 22:26

I am trying to find out how I can get a copy of two ancestor's birth certificates.
One was born in South Africa around 1860 (his father was a minister) and his daughter in India around 1906(he was a botanist).
Which websites should I be looking at or which reading rooms in London.
Any recommendations?
Thank you in advance
